Three-Phase-Separator [DPS]

Operational area:

For extending the service life of cleaning and degreasing tanks as well as grit cooling solvents.

Three-phase-separatorWater cleaning and degreasing tanks, grit cooling solvents, as well as oils resulting from almost all industrial fields, solvents and solids of contaminated process tanks, can be cleaned with the three-phase separator - short DPS - and be used on a long-term basis in the production cycle.

Advantages of the DPS:

  • Service life extension
  • Low operating cost
  • Low maintenance
  • Economical
  • Quality assurance

Function:

The DPS works using the physical law of

  • Gravity (weight and lift) and the
  • Coalescence (behavior of drop-shaped liquid substances - with different surface tensions to merge into larger drops.)

Separation procedures for sorting out foreign oils and grease, solvents and solids from the process tanks takes place in the DPS through cross sectional flow and surface enlargement. The DPS separates all materials, which have a density difference of >5% to water:
light liquids (<0,95 kg/cm ³) float up, and material with higher density (>1,05 kg/cm ³) settle.

Very small oil drops cannot be separated by gravity anymore. These merge to larger drops on the angled mouldings, and together they can float upwards.

Provided these foreign materials are not present in water solution and are not emulsified by the tank liquid.

The contaminated tank liquids flow through rows of angled mouldings, at which the foreign matter will separate. Important for the separation is the wettability of the oleophilen (oil-friendly) angled mouldings by the foreign oil.

Separation of foreign oils Foreign oils accumulated at the mouldings can rise through openings, which are arranged in angles above one another, move upward and over a skimmer and are removed from the DPS. The solids sink downward and are discharged.

DPS technology

The DPS works on physical principles. It uses the effect of gravity and coalescence for the separation of foreign oils and solvents and solids from the process tanks.

Commercial aspects:

With the durable and low maintenance- DPS process tanks can be operated in cycle and the service life is substantially extended.

This means waste prevention, less disposal costs and lower maintenance costs by reduction of the necessary cleaning and cooling agents etc.

Less fresh water consumption keeps the rising cost of water down. Further, product quality can be ensured, since the effect of the process tanks is not impaired by foreign material brought in.

The recycling idea i.e. the recycling of suitable materials helps to preserve raw material supplies and contributes to waste minimization and prevention.
The DPS helps to preserve the environment and achieves economical savings. Thus it becomes clear that by using a DPS both ecological and economic goals are achieved.

Application:

Water based cleaning and degreasing tanks are particularly useful in the metalworking industry as an effective substitute for the environmental damaging CFC´s. During the cleaning of metal parts, oils as well as dirt particles adhering to the surfaces will cling to the cleaning tanks. Due to this foreign matter the cleaning efficiency of the tanks decreases and the desired cleaning result can not be obtained.

With the DPS this foreign matter can be removed continuously from the cleaning tanks, whereby the service live of these tanks is extended, which again lowers consumption of cleaning agents.

Cooling agents are a valuable medium during cutting and forming metalworking which guarantee economic manufacturing. The service lives are acutely impaired by adhering foreign oils (corrosion protection oils adhering to metals etc.) and solids. The contaminated cooling agent cannot ensure desired cutting and shaping success any longer and must be expensively disposed of.

With the DPS the foreign oils and solids are removed from the cooling agent cycle, whereby the disposal and operational costs of cooling agents are lowered.

Further operational areas of the DPS are:

  • Pre-purifying treatment of wastewater before further treatment as e.g. an ultra filtration plant
  • Degreasing of water surface
  • Removal of solvents from industrial wastewater
  • Removal of vegetable and animal fats and oils from wastewater of large-scale catering establishments

Construction and materials:

The standard DPS is manufactured of stainless steel 1, 4301. Flexible design can be carried out when desired.

The durable DPS can be installed anywhere with minimum space requirement and is characterised by low maintenance operation. The profile packages of the DPS can be taken easily and quickly from the stainless steel container and cleaned with a high pressure cleaner.

Available for output performance from 100 to 5000 l/h with/without mud cone.
